Joachim Weckmann was  born in 1953 in Plettenberg, North Rhine-Westphalia. When he moved to his parents’ hometown – Berlin – he and 11 collectivists founded one of the city’s first organic bakeries there in 1977. In 1981, Weckmann bought Märkisches Landbrot GmbH, which had been founded in 1930 as a bread bakery and delivery business in Neukölln. He converted production to organic operations, and Märkisches Landbrot has been a Demeter bakery since 1992. Since 2010, the bakery has been baking in a climate-neutral way, and the first GWÖ certification was awarded in 2012. Märkisches Landbrot now supplies around 330 sales outlets, and the company’s turnover in 2020 was nine million euros. In 2021, Joachim Weckmann transferred his shares to a foundation set up specifically for this purpose. Since then, the company has been in steward-ownership and, so to speak, owns itself – in keeping with the motto: The bread is the boss.

The SO:22 is a conference for people and organizations that are working with or are interested in steward-ownership and all its facets. Register here if you would like to participate digitally and watch selected formats and keynotes via livestream on September 5 & 6!
