After training to become a graphic designer from 1988 to 1992, Daniel Freitag worked as a freelancer for various advertising agencies in Zurich. In 1993, together with his brother Markus, he decided to make bags from used truck tarpaulins. In 2003 the TOP CAT model was included in the design collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA). FREITAG lab.ag, headquartered in Zurich Oerlikon, is still owned by the Freitag brothers and today employs around 250 people. It also operates 29 FREITAG stores worldwide. The Freitags have not only committed themselves to the circular economy, but have also abolished the classic hierarchies, including the management, with the “Holacracy” form of organization.
