Thomas Bruch led the fifth-generation family business GLOBUS as managing partner from 1981 until 2020. He is currently the steward-owner in transition to his son Matthias Bruch, who took over the management of Globus Holding in 2020. Thomas Bruch is also committed to improving the framework conditions for a fiduciary understanding of ownership as a board member of the Stiftung Verantwortungseigentum (Foundation for Steward-Ownership). Founded more than 190 years ago as a grocery store in St. Wendel in the Saarland, the Globus Group today includes 60 hypermarkets and 90 construction markets in Germany, and Globus is also represented in Russia and the Czech Republic. The family-owned company now employs more than 46,000 people and generates sales of almost eight billion euros. In July 2020, Thomas Bruch, great-great-grandson of the company’s founder, handed over the management of Globus Holding to his son Matthias Bruch, who now steers the company’s fortunes in the sixth generation – as the steward-owner. Already ten years ago, Thomas Bruch implemented an innovative ownership structure that ensures that entrepreneurship and ownership remain coupled and that skills and values play the decisive role in appointing the management.
